Team Building

We can run a Timber Frame Course designed especially for your needs on dates that are convenient for you.

Help your team bond by setting them a challenge to come together to build a tiny timber frame structure, that you have the option to keep at the end, a physical reminder of the incredible things your team can achieve together.

Our activities are facilitated to promote team work, team bonding, leadership skills and performance as well as providing a fun team activity that provides each individual with a new skill for their personal development.

Traditional Timber Frame Joinery

Timber frame construction is one of the oldest forms of building that remains in use today. The art of timber framing dates back to some of man’s first primitive structures; using large greenwood timbers slotted together to form stunning, natural structures without the need for nails.

Over a week's tuition your team will gain a broad understanding of calculating, crafting and building a timber frame structure. You will practice woodworking techniques with hand tools and power tools and together you will do the work that is required to produce a beautiful 10m² traditional timber frame. Each joint works with the next to ensure the structure not only fits together but is strong, just like your team!

Beginners and Advanced Carpentry

No experience is necessary to do this course. For those in your team that this skill comes naturally to, there are plenty of opportunities for them to work on more complex joints on the build.

After a week of hands-on learning, we will erect the completed frame and see the results of our collective hard work: an exquisite, handcrafted 10m² tiny house frame that will stand the test of time. A metaphor for your teams binding experience.

Community

We provide a holistic experience, living together, eating meals together and creating a feeling of whanaū. We walk with each other through the process, laugh together and support each other’s learning.

There are many opportunities for teams to bond over the course, including communal dinners. We also host a celebratory team meal on the Friday evening after erecting the completed timber frame that other team members or friends and family can attend, honouring the beautiful structure we’ve created that will stand for over 100 years.

Our communal house is on-site and provides space for your team to rest away from the workshop and is a comfortable place for us all to enjoy communal meals.

Location

Our workshop is based in a beautiful part of Golden Bay. There’s a stunning swimming hole just 2 minutes walk away where your team can cool down with a swim after an intense days learning. Paynes Ford climbing wall and river walk is a 10 minute walk away. Takaka township is a 5 minute drive or a 20 minute cycle away with access to shops, bars and a community cinema. A variety of beaches and other nature walks are within close access by bike or car.

Accommodation

There are 2 double bedrooms in the communal house and camping is available. There is no electricity or water hook up but all campers have access to the shower and bathroom in the communal house.

If camping is not a preferred option then we can organise accommodation in the Rocks Chalet for all team members, a 10 minute walk from our workshop.

Food

Included in the course cost are wholesome, nutritious, breakfasts, morning teas, lunches and a two course evening meal.

All meals will be served in the communal house. We cater for most dietary requirements and while we do our best to avoid traces of allergens, we cannot guarantee that food is allergen free.

Dates

We do our best to fit the team building courses to your schedule. To build a tiny timber frame structure, the course is a minimum of a week, however, shorter courses can be organised on request.
